Pobreza en Cisjordania peor que en Gaza-Poverty in West Bank worse than in Gaza

A report by Save the Children, an UK children's charity, brings to light the devastating poverty experienced by Palestinians under direct Israeli control.
The report analyzes conditions of Area C portions of the West Bank. These areas are made up of 60% of the West Bank's territory and are controlled solely by the Israeli military. The suffering caused by the Israeli government stems from a complete lack of approval for needed infrastructure and private repairs.
Restrictions on projects to upgrade houses, sewer treatment, roads and agriculture projects has led to a rapid decline in the living conditions of Area C residents. The prohibitions on farming lands have led to an inability of the people to feed themselves and directly to the malnutrition of children.
According to the report, approximately 79% of families in Area C lack sufficient food, compared with the 61% in Gaza. Diarrhoea rates are at 44%. Within the Area C communities, stunted growth is evident and one in ten are underweight for their age. Half the families surveyed reported an inability to access international aid.
"Palestinians in the West Bank are widely thought to enjoy a higher standard of living but tragically many families, particularly in Bedouin and herder communities, actually suffer significantly higher levels of malnutrition and poverty," said Salam Kanaan, Save the Children's director in the occupied Palestinian Territories.
Save the Children called on the Israelis to immediately halt all land confiscations and home demolitions and called on the Palestinian Authority to take action in developing services and increasing food security for residents of Area

Hamas political leader, Mahmoud Zahhar, stated that there are at least eight solidarity ships that would be heading to the Gaza Strip in the coming two months.
Zahhar added that some of the ships would be sailing from the Arabic Gulf.
In an interview with the Independent British paper on Monday, The Hamas leader said that he was informed by some individuals in the Gulf that after the World Cup games end, at least eight ships would be sailing to Gaza.
When asked about the possibility that Iranian ships could accompany the new flotilla, Zahhar said “Why not?”, and that Iran have the right to send medicine and humanitarian aid to Gaza.
He also stated that he expects dozens of ships to sail to Gaza during the Holy Muslim month of Ramadan expected to start August 1st.
Zahhar also accused Israel of being responsible for foiling a prison-swap deal, and added that he does not believe Israel has any intentions to achieve such a deal, and that the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, will not allow the Red Cross or any other organization to visit the captured soldier, Gilad Shalit, as such a visit would lead to exposing his whereabouts.
“I asked the related parties, and they said such a visit is impossible”, he said and added that he doubts the intentions of groups demanding to visit Shalit.
When asked about the demands of the Quartet, Zahhar said that he demands Israel to renounce violence and added that Israel never defined its borders and is ongoing with the construction and expansion of Jewish settlements in the occupied territories.
“We are asked to renounce violence, I demand Israel to renounce violence, to end the occupation in Palestine and in Jerusalem”, he stated, “the United States must renounce violence it practices in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, then we might be able to talks about renouncing violence, our violence is in defense agians Isareli violent agression”.

The al-Quds Center for Legal Aid and Human Rights reported that some 40 Bedouin families in the al-Farsiyya area, in the northern plains of the Jordan Valley, received official notices from Israel ordering them to leave their areas.
The families have been living in the area for several decades having been previously forced out of another area, due to Israel’s illegal policies and the construction of settlements.
The Center said that the orders did not give the families more than 24-hour notice; an issue that would make it practically impossible for them to present the needed ownership documents or to appeal the decision.
The issue is similar to that which happened in al-Hadidiyya area, near the central West Bank district of Tubas ten days ago, with the Israeli army handing orders to 13 families forcing them to leave. The 13 families were the last of original 50 families that once lived in the area.
The Center described the orders as an act of ethnic cleansing, as Israel wants to replace them with Jewish settlers and to force them to live in isolated areas, similar to the actions of the white National Party during apartheid in South Africa.
It also said that it is trying to appeal against the decision, and appealed to other human rights and legal organizations to intervene immediately in order to prevent the expulsion of the families.
The center also called on the Palestinian Authority and its president, Mahmoud Abbas, to act on the regional and international levels in order to expose the illegal Israeli measures and to save the families.
In a previous report, the center said that 21 residents living in Majdal Bani Fadel village, 9 in Yitma near Nablus, 5 in Jinsafut near Qalqilia, 9 in Kafr Ed Deek, and two from Hares village near Salfit, received similar orders this month as the army intends to demolish their homes, hothouses and barns.
The center is currently representing the families in an attempt to void the illegal Israeli decisions that target the very existence of the Palestinians in their homeland.

Turkey's Prime Minister announces that Turkey's airspace was closed to Israeli military flights after the attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla this past May.
The Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, told the press in Canada that the ban came after the attack on the Turkish ship, Mavi Marmara.
This comes to light as Israeli news outlets reported over the weekend that Turkish flight officials barred an Israeli flight carrying military officers from entering Turkish airspace.
The diplomatic rift between Turkey and Israel continues to grow wider as Israel is being stubborn in its response to Turkey's requests following the loss of life on May 31.
Turkey has only asked that Israel apologize for its actions, return the seized ships, pay compensation to the families of the victims, and participate in a fair and international investigation of the events.
Turkey has also recalled its ambassador and ceased all military cooperation with Israel. Relations have been strained since the catastrophic loss of life Israel inflicted on Gaza in 2009 but recent events have left them in a particularly bad state.

Colonos atacan Saffa-Settlers attack Saffa.

On the morning of June 23rd, 2010 Jewish settlers rioted and attacked Palestinian property in the neighbourhood of Saffa, Beit Ommar. On the most recent example of the so-called ‘price tag’ policy, dozens of residents of the illegal settlement of Bat Ayn attempted to set fire to private Palestinian land before throwing stones and bottles at nearby houses.
Israeli soldiers began firing tear-gas canisters and stun grenades after awoken Saffa residents had gathered around dawn, lightly injuring a number of Palestinians. Members of the Beit Ommar National Committee and Palestine Solidarity Project arrived in Saffa shortly after and recorded the incident.
The more radical of Israel’s 500,000 settlers in the occupied Palestinian territories adhere to the “price tag” policy, in which settlers seek revenge by attacking Palestinians for every outpost that is demolished. This latest attack came after the Israeli army demolished two illegal structures in Bay Ayin settlement.
The residents of Saffa have been subject to regular harassment and attack from Bat Ayn’s ideological settlers. In recent months settlers have attacked farmers, set fire to olive groves and chopped down crops. The Palestine Solidarity Project planted over 1000 olive trees recently to replace those repeatedly burnt, uprooted and destroyed by the settlers.

English.-
Jerusalem, June 27, 2010 (Pal Telegraph) –Twenty Palestinian were wounded Sunday morning during clashes between them and Israeli policemen invading Silwan neighborhood in East Jerusalem, Palestinian sources reported.
The sources reported the dozens of Israeli soldiers and border-guard units invaded the neighborhood in addition to armed Jewish settlers, adding that they opened fire randomly at the citizens and fired gas bombs causing at least two injuries.
Later on, more injuries were reported after the army fired rubber bullets against the residents, and dozens suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation.

Israel has confiscated seven oxygen machines bound for hospitals in the Gaza Strip, claiming that they might have non-medical applications.
The Norwegian Development Agency had donated the machines to the besieged people of Gaza, Palestinian Maan news agency reported on Saturday.
Tel Aviv has said that the medical equipment could be used for "non-medical purposes."
The Palestinian Authority Ministry of Health issued a statement on Saturday, asking Norway to demand the immediate release of the oxygen machines.
"Any delay in obtaining the medical equipment will negatively affect the health of patients," the statement said.
The seizure comes as Israel claims it has eased its three-year siege on the coastal strip, saying it is now letting humanitarian aid and other basic supplies enter the Palestinian territory.
Israeli officials had announced that they would only stop arms and weapons-related material from entering Gaza.
Reports say hundreds of Palestinians in the strip have died due to lack of medical equipment and medicine over the course of the past three years.

English.-
Engineer Canaan Obeid, deputy head of the Gaza Power Authority, stated that the only power plant in the Gaza Strip will stop functioning on Friday evening as it will run out of the fuel needed to run it.
Obeid added that Israel used to allow 2,200 cubic meters every week but reduced the amount to 700, an issue that forced the power plant to run in half capacity producing 25 megawatts instead of 50.
He further stated that the Ministry of Finance in the West Bank did not abide by initiatives presented by independent figures in order to allow the transfer of industrial fuel to Gaza.
Obeid demanded the Power and National Resources Authority in the West Bank to pressure the Ministry of Finance in order to transfer the needed amounts of fuel.

English.-
Israeli interrogators tortured a Palestinian child who was detained and sent to a detention center close to a settlement near Hebron. The child said that the interrogators used electricity in torturing him by attaching wires to his testicles.
Human Rights Commissioner in the Palestinian Territories, based in Gaza, Kiert Jorneg, stated that Israeli interrogators used wires and a battery when torturing the child by wiring his testis.
He added that the child, 15, was kidnapped by the army in the southern West Bank city of Hebron a month ago after the soldiers claimed he hurled stones at their vehicle.
The child was kicked and beaten by the soldiers all the way until they moved him to a detention center where the interrogation and torture continued as the interrogators were trying to force him to confess that he hurled stones at the military vehicles.
He denied the interrogators’ claims and said that he was kidnapped from the street without even knowing why was he being detained.
After beating the child, torturing him and failing to achieve a “confession”, the interrogators used electricity as a means of torture. Yet, he refused to confess to something he did not commit.
The interrogators brought a battery, likely a car battery, and attached wires to his testis.
One of the interrogators even told him that after they are done with him “he will never be able to become a father”.
The interrogator then attached wires to the testis of the child who was bound to a chair, and used electricity an issue that forced the child to tell the interrogator that he “will confess to anything he wants”.

English.-
The boycott action was launched on Wednesday by 1500 members of the Swedish Dockworkers Union, affecting 95% of Sweden's ports. Trade with Israel accounts for just 0.2% of Swedish imports and exports, so the action is largely symbolic, but it could have an impact on the Israeli companies that export to Sweden.
According to a union spokesperson, the boycott action was organized “because of the [Israeli navy's] assault on the ship to Gaza, that we supported before they took off and also against the blockade of the Gaza strip, which affects the civilian population."
One Swedish Dockworkers' Union spokesperson said, "We don't think it is far-reaching enough. We want them to lift the blockade."
This is not the first time that Swedish dockworkers have engaged in boycott actions against what they see as oppressive regimes. They launched a similar boycott of the notorious dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile, and of the apartheid regime in South Africa in the 1980s.

English.-
As progressives from across the US gather this week in Detroit, Michigan, for the 2nd U.S. Social Forum, a coalition of groups calling for the cancellation of a workshop sponsored by the Zionist organization 'Stand with Us' applauded the decision of the Social Forum's steering committee to cancel the workshop.
'Stand With Us' is a group associated with the Zionist Organization of America which uses the questionable research of right-wing zealots like Itamar Marcus to try to demonize Palestinian and Arab culture. In this case, the group had proposed a workshop in which they planned to portray Arab countries and the Palestinian territories as hostile to gay and lesbian individuals, while presenting Israel as a safe haven for lesbians and gay men.
In reality, homophobia is a reality throughout the world – from Africa, where the nation of Zambia has proposed a law to make homosexuality a capital crime, to Israel, where a group of right-wing religious Jews attacked a gay rights march last year, stabbing several participants.
Organizers published a short statement that "the workshop 'LGBTQI [Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender-Queer-Inquiring] Liberation in the Middle East' (Thursday, 24 June 10:00am to 12:00pm) has been canceled for violating the submission procedure and transparency requirements for all workshops, and for being in violation of the anti-racist principles central to the US Social Forum."
Some of the stated principles of the U.S. Social Forum include providing a safe space where “the voices of those who are most marginalized and oppressed from indigenous communities can be heard--a place that will recognize Indigenous peoples, their issues and struggles.”
The U.S. Social Forum grew out of the World Social Forum which originated in Brazil. According to organizers, “The World Social Forum (WSF) has become an important symbol of global movement convergence and the development of alternatives to the dominant paradigm. Over the past nine years, the WSF has gathered the world’s workers, peasants, youth, women, and oppressed peoples to construct a counter-vision to the economic and political elites of the World Economic Forum held annually in Davos, Switzerland.”
This year's forum was preceded by the first-ever conference of the Jewish Anti-Zionist Network in the U.S., in which progressive Jews from around the country came together to challenge, what they call, Israel's apartheid policies. The theme of challenging Israeli apartheid is a major part of the week-long gathering, which began Tuesday and will continue through the weekend.
Some of the groups that called for the workshop to be canceled were al-Awda NY, Arab American Action Network, Arab Resource and Organizing Center, Arab American Union Members Council, Arab Youth Organization, Bay Area Campaign to End Israeli Apartheid, Desis Rising and Moving, Palestine Youth Network, U.S. Palestinian Community Network, Middle East Children's Alliance, South West Asia North Africa Bay Area Queers, General Union of Palestine Students, Committee for Justice in Palestine (SJP)-UC Berkeley, and the Youngstown Arab Community Center.
The groups said in their statement that they stand behind a call by Palestinian gay and lesbian organizations to cancel the 'Stand with Us' workshop, saying “Racist, Zionist, colonialist and Islamophobic politics and actions are as abhorrent as the politics and practices of homophobia and therefore have no place within movements for justice. We agree with this position and stand steadfastly and with unwavering commitment with this just struggle. Likewise, we stand steadfastly and with unwavering commitment to struggles against US and Israeli policies of war against poor and marginalized communities here in the US and that seek to undermine our unity and solidarity.”

Dozens of armed Jewish settlers of Bat Ayin Settlement, attacked Palestinian homes in the nearby village of Safa, north of the southern West Bank city of Hebron.
The settlers hurled stones and empty bottles at the Palestinian homes, and when Israeli soldiers arrived at the scene, the soldiers fired tear gas canisters at the Palestinian residents and their homes instead of evacuating the settlers.
Medical sources reported several injuries among the Palestinians who inhaled the tear gas fired by the Israeli military.
Mohammad Ayyad, spokesperson of the Palestine Solidarity Project, said that the settlers began their attack at 5 a.m, on Wednesday, and also tried to set Palestinian farmlands ablaze but local farmers managed to stop them.
The attack was carried out after a farmer claimed a group of settlers that they were building houses illegaly on his lands. The settlers built the homes on Palestinian lands.
Israeli sources reported that dozens of policemen entered the settlement early on Wednesday at dawn and demolished homes.
Later on, the settlers attacked the Palestinian village and its residents as an other act of revenge.
Settlers of Bat Ayin settlement carried repeated attacks against the villagers, burned and uprooted hundreds of peace trees and grapevines, destroyed property, stormed houses, attacked the residents with batons, and opened fire on them.
The illegal settlement was built by a direct order issued by the then-Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, in 1992.
It was established over the land of al-Jab'a village in the north western extremity of Hebron district as one of the ten colonies forming the Gush Etzion settlement block which is one of the three major settlement blocks in the West Bank after Ariel in the north and Ma'ale Adumim in the centre. It is located 1.5 km north of Khirbet Safa.

The Israeli Defense Establishment successfully launched its six spy satellite on Tuesday evening, in a move that was described as another advancement meant to boost Israel’s intelligence-gathering capabilities.
The Satellite is called Ofek 9, one of six satellites that were deployed simultaneously, Israeli Ynet News reported.
The Ynet quoted a senior defense official stating that Israel needs to use its own satellites in “examining targets”, and that the new satellite provides Israel the power to examine frequent activity at a higher resolution.
The Defense Ministry in Israel issued a statement revealing that the coming phase would be to run some tests to examine the validation and serviceability of the new satellite, and adding that this satellite has remote sensing advanced technology.
Israeli Defense Minister, Ehud Barak, described the successful launching of the satellite as a “technological operation achievement”, the Ynet said, and that the this satellite proves Israel’s extensive abilities, and the advanced thinking and technology of the defense establishment.
Israel launched several satellites in 2002, 2007 and 2008. Another one in 2004, failed.
The newly launched satellite is meant to spy mainly on Iran but will also be used to spy on other countries in the region.
The Ynet said that despite Israel’s success with its satellite technology, it prefers not to reveal details regarding this technology and its abilities.
Israeli military officials confirmed today that the Ofek spy satellite began broadcasting in September intelligence on Iran, amid growing controversy over other issues related to conflict with the Palestinians.
The modern device was placed in orbit on Tuesday night from the Palmahim air base on the Mediterranean coast, by a rocket manufactured by the Israeli aerospace industry similar to that used to launch the Ofek 7 satellite in 2007.
Israel military circles indicated that the launch of the device means a successful base for the operations in space to collect data on alleged plans to create Iranian nuclear weapon.
According to sources, the Ofek 9-who joined five other spy satellites which are already operational, and this will contribute to the Zionist military forces "unprecedented operational capabilities and a broader scope."
They added that the device is specifically made for long distances, including nuclear facilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

English.
Court proceedings began Wednesday morning in Jerusalem for Hatem Abdel Qader, the Palestinian Chief of Jerusalem Affairs. He was charged with "violating a military order" preventing him from praying at the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
The mosque is considered the third-holiest site in Islam, but many Muslims are prohibited by Israeli authorities from praying there. Israeli authorities control access to the mosque and its grounds, which are located in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Palestinians who try to pray in the mosque face off with Israeli soldiers every Friday at East Jerusalem checkpoints, and very few are allowed to enter Jerusalem to pray at the mosque. Some, like Hatem Abdel Qader, have received personal orders from the Israeli military banning them from entering the mosque for a certain period of time. These orders do not provide the reason for the ban, but simply inform the recipient that they are not allowed to pray in the mosque.
Originally, Hatem Abdel Qader was supposed to be tried in May, but a group of right-wing Israelis disrupted the court proceedings and prevented the trial from moving forward.
Qader's supporters gathered in front of the courthouse Wednesday morning, where they demanded that the Israeli court drop the military order against Qader and others. They say that these orders violate the internationally-recognized right to freedom of religion.

Soldados israelíes usaron tarjetas bancarias de los activistas de la Flotilla-Israel soldiers have used bank cards stolen from activists on Flotilla

English.-
Boarding party troops in deadly flotilla raid confiscated cards and spent on them, claim campaigners who were on board.
Israeli troops have been accused of stealing from activists arrested in the assault onthe Gaza flotilla after confiscated debit cards belonging to activists were subsequently used.
In their raid of 31 May, the Israeli army stormed the boats on the flotilla and, as wellas money and goods destined for the Palestinian relief effort in Gaza, the bulk of whichhave yet to be returned, took away most of the personal possessions of the activists when taking them into custody.
Individual soldiers appear to have used confiscated debit cards to buy items such as iPod accessories, while mobile phones seized from activists have also been used for calls.
Ebrahim Musaji, 23, of Gloucester, has a bank statement showing his debit card was used in an Israeli vending machine for a purchase costing him 82p on 9 June.
It was then used on a Dutch website, www.thisipod.com, twice on 10 June: once for amounts equivalent to £42.42 and then for £37.83. And a Californian activist, Kathy Sheetz, has alleged that she has been charged more than $1,000 in transactions from vending machines in Israel since 6 June.
Musaji and Sheetz were on board two separate boats – one the Mavi Marmara, on which nine Turkish activists were killed, the other on the Challenger 1. Both activists only entered Israel when arrested, and were in custody for their entire time on Israeli soil.
"They've obviously taken my card and used it," Musaji told the Guardian.
"When they take things like people's videos and debit cards and use them, and their mobile phones, it becomes a bit of a joke.
"We were held hostage, we were attacked, and now there's been theft. If the police confiscate your goods in the UK, they're not going to use your goods and think they can get away with it."
Musaji cancelled his card on 7 June, the day after he returned to Britain, where he is a support worker for adults with learning difficulties. His bank has agreed to treat the transactions as fraudulent and he will not be charged for them. His mobile phone was also used for two short calls in Israel after it had been confiscated.
Another American activist, David Schermerhorn, 80, from Washington state, claims his iPhone was used, while Manolo Luppichini, an Italian journalist, said his card was debited with the equivalent of €54 after it was confiscated.
Activists say Israel still has possession of at least £1m of goods and cash, comprising aid and personal possessions, including laptops and cameras.
Some passports, three of them belonging to British citizens, have still not been returned. On Thursday, delegations in 12 countries, including the UK, held meetings with their respective governments to exert pressure on Israeli to return the seized property.
A spokeswoman for the Israeli embassy in London advised Musaji to register a formal complaint.

"Papi, debes ir allí, a poner una sonrisa en el rostro de un huérfano"-“Dad, you should go there, to put smile on an orphan’s face”

Debes ir allí, incluso si no puedes regresar.

English.-
(By Jamal Elshayyal, who was on board in Mavi Marmara)
Cengiz Songur had joined the Freedom Flotilla from Konya. When he announced to his family that he would go to Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid, one of his six daughters put a letter into his jacket’s pocket.
Cengiz Songur did not notice the letter until he was onboard the ship to Gaza. The letter starts with these words: “I have thousands of words to tell you, but they are now all stuck in my throat. I am scared, dad. I get scared as I see the sadness in my sisters’ eyes and the worried look on my mom’s face. Dad, please do not get scared. Please, go there, dad. Go there to put a smile on an orphan’s face, go there to receive good wishes from a mother. Go there even if you won’t be able to return. It is wonderful to be your daughter, I am so proud of you dad.”
Onboard Mavi Marmara, the 47-year-old dad of 7 children, showed the letter with joy and pride to his fellow passengers. On the 31st of May, 2010 he lost his life during Mavi Marmara raid. He was carrying this letter in his pocket when the Israeli navy attacked.
Following Cengiz Ozgur’s martyring by the Israeli soldiers, his daughters penned another farewell letter to express their feelings:
“Israel, you should be afraid. You should be frightened as hell. This time ababil* birds are on their way swimming through the sea. This time, ababil birds are not carrying stones in their beaks, but marble beads in their hands. Be afraid, Israel. My Lord, who sent those ababil birds to destroy huge elephants with small stones in their beaks, now sending ababils with marble beads to stop your ruthless actions. Israel, be afraid. Those believers are coming after you.
Dad, where are you now? What are you up to? Please do not mind my tears. I know, I am crying childishly. I am standing strong, dad. Watching you. I sometimes show your pictures to my daughter, she still thinks you are gone for fishing. When she sees the pictures, she asks about the Israeli soldiers, she thinks they are there for fishing as well, mistaking their big guns for fishing rods. I can’t tell her that ‘they are murderers’. You always taught me to be compassionate. You taught me to have mercy, to feel for others and to love others. I could only tell her that ‘they are some guys who do not want your grandpa to fish’. You will catch no fish but freedom out of the sea, dad. Freedom will hold the hands of those children in Palestine. Freedom will the best condiment you ever served to them. I am now sure that you are free, dad. We are free. Gaza is free!”
Cengiz Songur is one those 9 people martyred on the humanitarian aid ships bound for Gaza. May God bless him and may he rest in peace.
*Ababil birds are a race of enormous birds described in the Holy Quran as being sent by Allah to drop red clay bricks on the army of elephants sent by the king of Yemen to attack the city of Mecca before the prophet Mohammed was born.

Israel advierte a la ONU que tiene derecho de interceptar barco libanés de ayuda-Israel advises UN that they have the right to intercept Lebanese ship

Tel Aviv sent an official letter to the United Nations stating that it will, and “has the right” to intercept the Lebanese solidarity ship, Mariam, carrying humanitarian supplies to Gaza.
Israeli TV, Channel 2, reported that Israel’s UN Envoy, Gabriella Shalev, handed the letter to UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, informing him that Israel will use the needed means to intercept any ship that sails to Gaza.
Shalev claimed that the organizers of the trip have ties with the Hezbollah party in Lebanon, and added that Israel cannot know for sure that they are not smuggling terrorists and weapons to Gaza, according to Shaliv.
It is worth mentioning that the Hezbollah party officially stated that it has no connection whatsoever with the ship.
The party said it kept away from the ship in order to avoid granting Israel any motives to attack it.
Although it remains unknown when the ships will be sailing, Israeli daily Haaretz reported that Israel believes they will be sailing Sunday.
Israel intends to use force similar to the violence used against the Marmara Turkish ship on May 31.
The army received instructions to stop the ships by all means and to use force if needed.
It is worth mentioning that that the Lebanese ship will only carry women, Muslim and Christian, in addition to medical and humanitarian supplies.
Muslim and Christian leaders held prayers on Friday afternoon in southern Lebanon. The prayers were held in Maghdousha town near Sidon at a cave believed to be the location where Mary waited for her son, Jesus Christ, as he toured the area with his disciples.
Reema Farah, spokesperson of the Lebanese ship, said that the participants are determined to sail to Gaza, and that their only weapon is Virgin Mary and humanity.
Farah added that the ship is carrying medicine and will sail to Gaza regardless of the Israeli threats.
She warned Israel not to repeat “the same sin its soldiers carried against the Marmara ship”, and added that women from Syria, Egypt, Kuwait, several European countries, and the United States will be sailing to Gaza on board the Mariam ship.

The Israeli government instructed the army and the navy to intercept, and if necessary, to use force against the two Lebanese ships that would be heading to Gaza to deliver humanitarian supplies.
Israeli daily, Haaretz, said that the security devices in Israel still do not know when the ships will be sailing from Lebanon to Gaza, but will likely sail this Sunday.
The ships, “Naji al-Ali” and “Mariam” are filled with humanitarian supplies to the besieged Gaza Strip.
The Israeli government said that should the army “face resistance” after boarding the ships, the soldiers will use the same methods and techniques used in attacking the Marmara Turkish ship, nearly three weeks ago, leading to the death of peace activists injuries.
An Israeli official said that Israel took into consideration criticisms and reactions of the international community against the attack on the Marmara ship, but has no other solution to the issue rather than attacking violently them if they decide to continue sailing to Gaza.

En medio de conversaciones de paz, Israel demuele 22 hogares en Jerusalén-In the middle of launch talks, Israel demolish 22 homes in Jerusalem

The Israeli “Planning and Construction Committee” will discuss on Monday a plan put forth by Jerusalem Mayor, Nir Barkat, to demolish dozens of Arab homes in Silwan neighborhood in East Jerusalem.

Turquía no enviará nuevo embajador a Israel-Turkey will not send new ambassador to Israel

The Star newspaper in Turkey reported Wednesday that the Turkish government decided not to send a new ambassador to Israel unless it cooperates with the International Investigation Committee in charge of investigating the deadly Israeli attack against the Freedom Flotilla in international waters.
The paper quoted a government official stating that his country decided to freeze military deals with Israel, including deals to update fighter jets, tanks and missiles. The deal is estimated at about US$7 billion dollars.
Turkey also decided to suspend joint military exercises with Israel, agreements to train pilots and also decided to halt its security cooperation with Tel Aviv.
Meanwhile, Turkish president, Abdullah Gul, said that the Turkish government prepared a road map detailing measures to be taken against Israel should it fail to cooperate with the international investigation into the attack against the Freedom Flotilla.
He refused to comment on the nature of these measures, but said that they will be announced at the right time.
The Turkish paper said that a committee was formed by the Foreign Ministry and the Justice Minister in order to prepare for an international investigation into the Israel attack.
United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, proposed forming a comprehensive international investigation committee but the Israeli government rejected the idea and claimed it was investigating the attack with the participation of two foreign observers.
Israel also claimed that its investigation is professional and is being carried out on both military and political levels.
The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), based in Gaza, issued a press release stating that the Israeli investigation committee was appointed and approved by the Israeli government; therefore it cannot be considered an official committee.
Israel also said that it will not investigate or question any soldier, and that the soldiers who participated in the attack against the Freedom Flotilla will not be asked to testify.
The PCHR added that the Israeli committee did not provide guarantees that it would be independent and that its members have little experience, if any, in conducting international criminal investigations.
The committee includes a former justice of the Israeli High Court, a retired lieutenant and a retired diplomat. Israel also appointed two foreign experts who will not have any voting rights and only a limited role in the proceedings as they will be primarily joining hearings and consultation sessions.
Israel can also prevent the international observers from viewing certain documents deemed confidential by Israel as they “could harm Israel’s national security and its international relations”.
The PCHR stated that international law requires commitments to conduct detailed and non-biased investigations, and that such investigations should be real and should not aim at protecting officials who violated the law.
The European Court for Human Rights said that the investigations must be able to identify those who violated international law and must be able to punish them.
Yet, Israel wants to conduct its own investigation that would not name officials, let alone allow for prosecutions of the officials and the soldiers who ordered and conducted the deadly attack against nonviolent peace activists escorting aid to Gaza.
