Miles de Sonrisas, es el lema que lidera al 5º convoy de ayuda humanitaria internacional dirigiéndose hacia Gaza que contiene entre otras cosas, gran cantidad de suplementos, equipos e insumos médicos que la población de Gaza necesita imperiosamente. Ayer llegaron al norte del Sinaí y esperan la autorización del gobierno egipcio para entrar a la Franja.
El convoy, llamado Mártires de la frontera, en honor a los soldados egipcios asesinados por el ejército de Israel por equivocación hace una semana, traslada aproximadamente un total de 100 activistas árabes e internacionales que acompañan al cargamento de insumos y suplmentos médicos.
Esperan poder ingresar a Gaza antes de la fiesta de Eid Al Fitir, la celebración musulmana que marca el cierre del mes de Ramadan.
El Dr. Issam Yousef, coordinador del convoy Miles de Sonrisas 4, que logró ingresar a Gaza, afirmó que se están preparando dos convoys más en los próximos tres meses.
Israel mantiene bloqueada la Franja de Gaza desde hace cinco años, momento en que Hamas ganó las elecciones legislativas con más del 70% de los votos palestinos y el gobierno de Israel decidió que no le gustaba; urgen los insumos médicos, el equipamiento y otros elementos esenciales para las necesidades de la población, más aún en estas últimas semanas en las que, a pesar del alto el fuego, Israel no ha dejado de bombardear esporádicamente la Franja y normalmente apunta a la destrucción de centros de atención médica y sanitaria o a los médicos, tal como hace una semana, atentando y asesinando al médico de cabecera de urgencias e hiriendo a todas su familia.

The Miles of Smiles 5 solidarity convoy, heading to the besieged Gaza Strip to deliver medical and humanitarian supplies, entered Monday North Sinai District in Egypt heading to the border with the Gaza Strip hoping to be allowed through.
The convoy, named the Martyrs of the Border, referring to the Egyptian soldiers who were recently killed by Israeli army fire on the border with Eilat, carries approximately 100 Arab and International human rights activists, in addition to urgently needed medical and humanitarian supplies.
They are hoping to enter Gaza before the Muslims celebrate Eid Al Fitir that marks the end of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.
Dr. Issam Yousef, coordinator of the Miles of Smiles 4 that managed to enter Gaza, stated that preparations are ongoing to send two more convoys to Gaza in the next three months.
Although Israel claimed easing the five-year old deadly siege on Gaza, urgently needed medications, medical equipment and essential supplies are still missing in Gaza.

Fuentes médicas palestinas en Beit Lahia, en el norte de la Franja de Gaza, reportaron este lunes que un pequeño palestino murió víctima de las heridas ocasionadas durante un bombardeo israelí en Beit Lahia, hace diez días.
El niño, identificado como Haitham Ma’rouf, de 14 años de edad sufrió heridas serias cuando la Fuerza Aérea Israelí bombardeó un área residencial en el norte de la ciudad de Beit Lahia.
El niño permanecía en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de Al Shifa en la ciudad principal de Gaza.
En su reporte semanal, el grupo isarelí de defensea de los derechos humanos palestinos enosto, fueron asesinados 17 palestinos en la Franja de Gaza, la mayorías de ellos civiles, un científico, físico, varios niños, mujeres y ancianos. 20 palestinos permanecen heridos, entre ellos 6 niños, en Gaza, mientrsa que otros 3 fueron asesinados en Cisjordania.

Palestinian medical sources in Beit Lahia, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, reported Monday that a Palestinian child died of wounds inflicted when the Israeli army bombarded Beit Lahia, ten days ago.
The child was identified as Haitham Ma’rouf, 14; he suffered serious injuries when the Israeli Air Force bombarded a residential area in the north of Beit Lahia.
He remained at the Intensive Care Unit at the Al Shifa Medical Compound in Gaza City until he succumbed to his injuries.
In its Weekly Report on Israeli Human Rights Violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories for the week of 18– 24 Aug. 2011, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights found that Israeli forces killed 17 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. 5 of the victims are civilians, including two children and a physician.
During the same week, Israeli warplanes launched 41 air strikes against targets in the Gaza Strip, killing 17 Palestinians, including 5 civilians (two children, a physician, a worker and a farmer), in the Gaza Strip. They also wounded 20 Palestinians, including 6 children and two women in the Gaza Strip, and 3 others in the West Bank.

Un bombardeo israelí de hoy en Gaza dejó como saldo dos personas muertas. Las dos personas eran soldados palestinos de la Jihad islámica, informó la agencia Maan News.
Se trata de Salim Al-Arabid y Alaa Hamdan quienes murieron luego de que fuera bombardeado el norte de la Franja.
Otros siete milicianos murieron esta semana y 30 personas continúan hospitalizadas heridas por los bombardeos ocurridos del lunes en que se acordó el cese el fuego.

An Israeli airstrike killed two members of Islamic Jihad's armed wing in the Gaza Strip late Thursday, witnesses and security sources told Ma'an.
Salim Al-Arabid and Alaa Hamdan died after the airstrike in northern Gaza, Islamic Jihad's military wing said in a statement.
An Israeli military spokeswoman had no immediate comment on the reports but said five rockets struck the western Negev Thursday night and 12 rockets in the past 24 hours.
Seven others have been killed since Monday after the agreement of stop firing, and at least 30 injured in airstrikes during the same period.

Las autoridades egipcias afirmaron que al menos tres de los atanques del pasado jueves cerca de la ciudad de Eilat, eran egipcios. Los tres son fugitivos de la justicia egipcia, uno de ellos posee una fábrica de municiones en Sinaí.
Los tres fugitivos están siendo buscados por Egipto desde hace tiempo por actividades ilegales.
Luego del ataque del jueves, helicópteros israelíes traspasaron las fronteras egipcias y asesinaron a 5 oficiales egipcios por error.
Israel justificó el ataque fuera de sus fronteras y dentro del país limítrofe diciendo que pretendían matar a los responsables del ataque, pero se equivocaron. Por la misma razón, desde el jueves 18 de agosto y hasta ayer lunes 22 de agosto, bombardearon continuamente Gaza, al mismo tiempo, como represalia por la infundada suposición de que quienes cometieron los atentados eran palestinos, soldados y colonos invadieron las ciudades de Hebrón, Ramallah y Nablus, agrediendo a la población a golpes, deteniendo a palestinos y provocando más heridos.
Fuentes médicas de Hebrón reportaron que 55 residentes resultaron heridos luego de la incursión del ejército de Israel que dejó un saldo de 120 detenidos secuestrados.
Muchos de estos heridos fueron impactados de cerca por balas de goma, otros resultaron intoxicados por la gran cantidad de gases lacrimógenos arrojados por lo soldados de Israel en la ciudad palestina de Hebrón, y otros fueron atacados físicamente y golpeados por los soldados.

The Egyptian Authorities stated that three of the men believed to be behind the Thursday attack in Eilat coastal city have been identified, and that one of them is a fugitive who owns an ammunition factory in Sinai, the Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported. Egyptian-mediated ceasefire took effect on Monday.
The three detained persons are fugitives wanted by the Egyptian security forces for illegal activities and attacks, Al Jazeera added.
Following the attack that led to the death of eight Israelis, Israeli helicopters crossed
the border with Egypt and fired two missiles killing five Egyptian soldiers.
Israel claimed that its helicopters entered Egyptian territory in an attempt to kill those responsible for the attack.
Palestinian medical sources in Hebron, in the southern part of the West Bank, reported that 55 residents were injured following clashes that took place between local residents and Israeli soldiers who invaded the city.
The sources stated that some of the wounded residents were hit by rubber-coated metal bullets fired by the soldiers; others were treated for the effects of teargas inhalation, while the rest were violently attacked and beaten by the soldiers.
Also, soldiers broke into the home of detainee Mahmoud Al Qawasmi of the Hamas movement, in Wadi Abu Kteila area, north west of Hebron, and detonated some of its walls. Al Qawasmi has been imprisoned by Israel since seven years.
The soldiers detained dozens of residents and interrogated them in the streets, and broke into several homes that belong to members of Al Qawasmi family or friends, Karama, and Al Joulani.
Sporadic slashes took place in Bab Al Zawiya area, in the center of Hebron, as local residents hurled stones and bottles at the invading military forces. The soldiers fired gas bombs and rubber-coated metal bullets.
On Sunday at dawn, troops invaded Hebron, broke into and searched dozens of homes, and kidnapped dozens of Hamas members and supporters, including elected legislator Mohammad Abu Jheisha, and a number of Hamas political leaders.
Israeli Policemen and members of the so-called Border Guard Units, closed on Sunday night after midnight the Bas Al Amoud area, one of the main gates of Jerusalem, while more than 1500 Palestinian youths intend to pray in the Al Aqsa mosque in Old Jerusalem.
Israeli policemen kidnapped several youths, and violently attacked Palestinian medics in the area. The kidnapped youths were moved to the Al Maskobiyya interrogation center, west of Jerusalem.
Furthermore, several Israeli policemen placed ladders on walls surrounding the Al Aqsa mosque and conducted provocative acts amongst the worshipers and the protesters leading to further tension in the area.

El director del servicio de emergencias médicas en el hospital central de Gaza, declaró este lunes 22 de agosto, que Israel está probando armas nuevas contra la población de Gaza, armas de una brutalidad inusitada.
Los bombardeos no han cesado desde los ataques del jueves, si bien se acordó con el gobierno de Hamas un alto el fuego. La población aguarda esperanzada bajo el estruendo de las bombas que caen con un promedio de una a dos por hora.
El Dr Ayman As-Sahbani dijo que los pacientes que han sido ingresados al hospital Al Shifa, tienen heridas muy graves, y que los cuerpos se encuentran con quemaduras horripilantes nunca vistas antes.
Manifestó además que es evidente que las armas se disparan de manera indiscriminada hacia mujeres, niños o ancianos. Entre los casos de niños han fallecido un niño de 2 y otro de 13 años.

The head of an emergency ward in a Gaza City hospital said Monday that Israeli forces were using new, more brutal weapons against residents of the Gaza Strip.
On Thursday, Israeli forces began a four-day bombarded the coastal enclave killing 14 Palestinians and wounding dozens more in a series of airstrikes and drone attacks.
Dr Ayman As-Sahbani said patients were admitted with horrific injuries and that some bodies delivered to Al-Shifa Hospital were so badly burned they were unrecognizable.
He said Israeli weapons made no distinction between women, children and the elderly, pointing out that a two-year-old toddler and a 13-year-old boy were among those killed in the latest escalation.

Más de 100 jeeps militares se desplazaron por la ciudad de Hebrón en tres direcciones y todos los vecindarios en la campaña de detenciones más grande que se haya efectuado en esa ciudad desde 2003.
El jurista gubernamental de Hamas, Muhammad Mutliq Abu Juheisha, se encuentra entre los detenidos. Los soldados de Israel continuaron la redada a los alerededores invadiendo los pueblos palestinos de Dura, Surif, Beit Ula, Nuba, Yatta y As-Samu.

Israeli forces detained 120 Palestinians, mostly Hamas supporters, overnight Saturday in the southern West Bank, witnesses and officials said.
More than 100 military jeeps stormed Hebron from three directions and deployed in several neighborhoods in the largest detention campaign in the city since 2003, locals and Palestinian security officials told Ma'an.
Hamas lawmaker Muhammad Mutliq Abu Juheisha was among more than 120 Palestinians detained across the district as soldiers raided the surrounding towns of Dura, Surif, Beit Ula, Nuba, Yatta and As-Samu.
"Between 100 and 120 people have been arrested," Samira Halaika, a Hamas MP from Hebron told AFP. "In terms of size, there has never been such an arrest operation on this scale in the Hebron area before."
Mushir al-Masri, another Hamas MP who lives in Gaza, said initial information showed at least 80 of the group's members had been arrested in a move which he said demonstrated Israel's "criminal mentality" towards the Palestinians.
"All attempts by the occupation to hit at Hamas are doomed to fail; experience has shown that it only makes Hamas stronger," he said.
Palestinian security sources said troops fanned out across the southern West Bank in an overnight operation which kicked off just hours after Hamas's armed wing in Gaza fired rockets into southern Israel, breaking a truce brokered in April.
The Al-Qassam Brigades said they fired four Grad rockets at the Israeli town of Ofakim near the Gaza Strip, lightly wounding two children, in what was the first such attack claimed by the group in months and came in the context of rising tensions in and around the enclave.
The Israeli operation met with resistance, with youngsters hurling stones at troops in Dura and troops retaliating with rubber bullets, moderately injuring one youngster, medics said.
The Israeli military had no immediate comment on the reported arrests, which came as tensions soared along the Israel-Gaza border, with the air force launching multiple air strikes against militants who hit back with rocket attacks.

In an assault that they claimed was 'in revenge' for the killing of eight Israelis on Thursday by unknown gunmen, a group of around fifteen Israeli settlers in the West Bank surrounded a Palestinian child and beat him nearly to death. They also attacked three farmers, injuring them badly.

The attacks took place on Saturday near the settlement outpost Ramat Migron, near Ramallah. Eyewitnesses report that a gang of masked teens and adults carrying iron bars came running through Palestinian farmland looking for Palestinians to attack.
They first beat three farmers in their fields before they came across the 10-year old boy, who they beat severely in the head and body.
The boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition, suffering from serious head wounds and brain trauma, according to medical sources.
Israeli media sources report that thirteen settlers, mainly teenagers, were arrested by Israeli police in relation to the incident. According to the report, the youth refused to cooperate with the Israeli police.
