English.-
The Jerusalem Center for Social and Economical Rights (JCSER) issued a report detailing the latest numbers of Palestinians who lost their residency rights in occupied East Jerusalem due to Israeli restrictions and measures.
Two months ago, the center filed a request in this regard to the Israeli Interior Ministry and recently received a response regarding the number of Palestinian who lost residency rights since 2009 until June 6, 2010.
The Israeli Ministry revoked residency rights of 721 Palestinians, including 108 who lost this right since the beginning of this year until June 6. This means that a total of 829 Palestinians were stripped of their residency rights in 1.5 years.
The number of Palestinians who were stripped of their residency rights since Israel illegally captured and occupied East Jerusalem in 1967 until mid June 2010 has arrived to 86.226 (14371 families), while the year 2008 witnessed the largest number of Palestinians who were stripped of their residency rights.
Furthermore, Israel is ignoring and rejecting thousands of application of family unification and thousands of applications to register newborn Palestinians in the city.
The JCSER added that Israel only reinstated the residency rights of 95 Palestinians since the beginning of 2009 until July 6, 2010.
As for family reunification applications since 2009 until July 15 2010, a total of 1099 applications were filed and only 258 were approved in 2009 and only 22 in 2010. In the same period, Israel rejected 144 applications in 2009 and 12 this year so far,
while 631 applications are still under review.
Ziad Al Hammoury, head of the JCSER, said that the Israeli numbers are not accurate as the reality on the ground is much worse as it was portrayed by the Israeli list as hundreds of residents are being stripped of their residency rights in occupied East Jerusalem, hundreds of families are not granted family reunifications and not allowed to register their children as Jerusalem residents, while hundreds of Palestinians who study or work abroad were stripped of their ID cards at border terminals.
Al Hammoury added that Israel is still ongoing with this illegal policy and is escalating it, especially after its revoked residency rights of Jerusalem legislators and is trying to keep them out of the city.
But the issue, Al Hammoury said, is not only about the legislators as Israel revoked the residency rights of 4672 Palestinians in 2008 alone.

La batalla de Nabi Saleh: soldados vs niños-The battle of Nabi Saleh: soldiers vs. kids

English.-
When Israeli soldiers entered the embattled Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh on July 2, they were immediately confronted by over a dozen small children.
While the Israeli army is accustomed to firing teargas canisters, percussion grenades, rubber bullets and even live. 22 caliber ammunition at adolescent boys, members of the Nahal unit and Kfir infantry brigade tasked with suppressing the weekly Nabi Saleh demonstration were frustrated by the children who surrounded and taunted them. At one point, the division commander became so upset he barked into his radio, “I need backup!”
The spectacle of seven-year-old children confronting heavily armed and visibly confused soldiers offers one of the clearest perspectives of the lopsided power dynamic that animates the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It also highlights the reality of life for children in the Occupied Territories. They play soccer and dodgeball between phalanxes of soldiers firing lethal projectiles at their neighbors just a few meters away — everyday life is an act of resistance.
Why are children participating in popular protests? Consider the case of Ni’lin, a Palestinian village engaged in popular struggle against the construction of the separation wall across its privately owned land. The Israeli army is holding three members of its small popular committee — the political leadership of the village — in harsh conditions in Ofer prison. They were arrested without charges during a night raid, subjected to psychological torture by the Shabak (Israel’s General Security Service), and are being held indefinitely.
“Everyone is scared to protest now,” Saeed Amireh, a Ni'lin resident in his early twenties, told me. “I can participate in the demonstrations because I am single. But for those of us who have wives and children, going to jail is the worst. How can we work for our families or know what is happening with our wife if we are taken away?” Amireh had just returned from a four month stint in Ofer prison which he described as “horrible.” He is still not sure what crime he was accused of committing. “It’s bullshit,” he said. “I’m not the one doing any violence.”
During Friday’s protest in Nabi Saleh, orders could be heard blaring from soldiers’ radios to photograph some of the older (read: over 10 years old) boys participating in the protest. The photos are used to identify targets for night raids, when soldiers enter the village under cover of darkness, burst into homes and grab the young children and adolescent boys comprising the village’s shabab from their beds.
According to Lymor Goldstein, a lawyer who represents many of the Ni’lin residents detained for joining protests, the arrested youth are immediately subjected to psychological torture by the Shabak: they are held in total darkness, fed at odd hours, threatened, and interrogated as soon as they become sufficiently scared and disoriented. “They don’t really need to beat them,” Goldstein told me during a demonstration in Ni'lin. “The psychological torture is so intense that almost no one can resist it.” (Goldstein confided to me that he was having trouble recalling specific names because of a rubber bullet that pierced his skull during a protest in the village of Bil’in in 2006, causing long term damage to his vision and memory.

Video of the Israeli Border Police shooting Goldstein is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3r6VxDkvjw&has_verified=1.)

Because grown men are particularly vulnerable to imprisonment and adolescent boys are targeted with just about any kind of violence the Israeli army wants to level against them, young children have led the Nabi Saleh demonstrations on at least three occasions. While the soldiers acted with general restraint towards the kids (Nahal is peppered with left-leaning citizen-soldiers who have been convinced they can foster “change from within” by joining a combat unit) children as young as seven have been called in for recent interrogations by the Shabak. While the Shabak called the incident a “mistake,” it is not isolated. Nora Barrows-Friedman reported last March on a 10 year old who was badly beaten during a night raid of his home by Israeli troops, then detained in a nearby settlement for 10 hours. In Nabi Saleh, a young boy was critically injured by Israeli forces in March.
On July 2, the soldiers in Nabi Saleh wound up taking their frustrations out on two Israeli activists, Yonathan Shapira and Matan Cohen, violently subduing and arresting them. Though Shapira and Cohen were baselessly accused by the Israeli army Spokesman’s Office of “attacking” a soldier, they were released hours after their detention.
What are Israeli soldiers doing in Nabi Saleh in the first place? The village has been besieged by its neighbors from the religious nationalist Israeli settlement of Halamish since Halamish was constructed in 1977 on land privately owned by Nabi Saleh’s residents. Recently, the settlers seized control of a fresh water spring that has belonged to Nabi Saleh since the village was built in the 19th century. In December 2009, the settlers uprooted hundreds of the village’s olive trees in an attempt to re-annex land awarded back to Nabi Saleh in an Israeli court case. Since then, farmers from Nabi Saleh have been subjected to routine attacks by settlers and prevented from working their land. The Israeli army has come down firmly on the side of Halamish, suppressing the demonstrations with disproportionate force while doing little, if anything, to prevent settler violence.

Two Palestinians were killed and eighteen others wounded during a week of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip and also the West Bank, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights reports.
The report documents daily human rights violations in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip every week.
In the Gaza Strip, Israeli troops killed two Palestinians and wounded eight civilians, including five children and one woman, on Wednesday 21 July as they opened fire at a residential are in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun, because they say "they seemed to have seen suspiscious movements".
Israeli forces conducted five limited incursions into Palestinian areas, during which they searched the areas.
In the West Bank, ten Palestinian civilians two of them are children in addition to three journalists, were wounded when an Israeli military force used force against peaceful demonstrators against the Wall in a number of locations in the West Bank.
During the reporting period the Israeli military conducted at least twenty-three military incursions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank, during which they arrested twenty seven Palestinian civilians, including seven children and three women.
Israel had continued to impose a tightened siege on the Palestinian territories and imposed severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem.
On the other hand the report said that the Israeli military and police demolished two inhabited houses, a mobile home, two houses currently under construction, sixty-four huts and barnyards, five shops and an agricultural pool in Area "C" in the West Bank. It should be noted that the Israeli government instructed the Israeli military and Civil Administration to intensify demolitions of Palestinian houses and facilities in Area "C," claiming that they are a security threat to Israel.

Israel dice que va a usar menos cantidad de fósforo blanco-Israel says it will limit white phosphorus, not outlaw it

A report given to the UN by Israel details how it will attempt to limit civilian casualties in the future.
The report was presented in relation to the Israeli military's actions in Operation Cast Lead, the 2008-09 war that decimated Gaza and left 1400 Palestinians dead.
Its completion was to satisfy a resolution from the General Assembly and was given to the UN Secretary-General on Monday. In it were outlined several ways in which the Israeli army would seek to lessen civilian casualties. It also proscribed a new policy to the use of white phosphorus, a chemical weapon known for its ability to cause extremely serious burns which exterminate immediately any kind of skin or organs.
The measures include such things as emphasizing to commanders that protecting civilians is critical to their mission as well as adding a humanitarian affairs officer to each combat unit.
Part of the new regulations on the use of white phosphorous include having a buffer zone of a few hundred meters and to not use it around sensitive areas. The weapon remains legal and in their arsenal.

The Israeli military demolished an entire village in the Jordan Valley after declaring it within a closed military zone.
The Israeli occupation force destroyed an entire village in the Jordan valley after most residents had been left without water, the water has been cut off several month before.
55 structures were destroyed by the Israeli military in Farasiya, leaving the 120 farmers, laborers and their families without homes.
The Israelis say they posted eviction notices declaring the area a live fire zone but received no appeals challenging the declaration.
The residents were mostly shepherds and those that worked the land of families in the nearby town of Tubas.
This is the culmination of a number of policies by Israel to choke the people of water and ultimately into leaving the land. A few years ago the army destroyed a pipe the residents had laid to bring water from a nearby stream into their farms and for drinking.
Last year they forbid the residents from connecting to wells made by Mekorot Water Company. They have since been pumping saltwater to the surface for their livestock and having water brought in by tanker, until four months ago when the Civil Administration confiscated the pumps.

Israeli control of water supplies in the West Bank has led to a severe water crisis for Palestinian residents. The situation is worst in the Israeli-controlled stretch of land known as Area C, where the Palestinian Authority (PA) is technically responsible for water services, but simply unable to deliver because Israel close the pipes.
Cara Flowers, an officer with the Emergency Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Group (EWASH), said the health and livelihoods of communities living in Area C - covering 60 percent of land in the West Bank and home to some 60,000 of the West Bank’s 2.3 million people - were hardest hit as they have a severe lack of access to water and sanitation infrastructure.
“Many vulnerable communities are 40km from the nearest filling point,” said Flowers. “This makes drinking water less accessible and more costly during summer months.”
She said EWASH was struggling to implement emergency humanitarian water projects in Area C as it lacked the necessary permits from the Israeli authorities.
The 1995 Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement on the West Bank and Gaza Strip (also known as Oslo II) categorized land in the West Bank into areas A, B and C.
According to the agreement, Area A is under the control of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Area B under the joint control of Israel and the PA. About 95 percent of the Palestinian population live in these two areas, though they make up only 40 percent of the land area.
In Area C, Israel has retained full control over security and while responsibility for the provision of services falls to the PA, according to EWASH.
But the Palestinian Water Authority says it has very limited control over water resources in the West Bank.
Rights body Amnesty International accuses Israel of denying Palestinians the right to access sufficient water supplies in the West Bank by maintaining total control over the shared water resources and preventing the development of adequate water infrastructure there.
The Mountain Aquifer is the only source of water for Palestinians in the West Bank, but one of several for Israel, which also has sole access to water available from the Jordan river.
“Israel uses more than 80 percent of the water from the Mountain Aquifer, the main source of underground water in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory, while restricting Palestinian access to a mere 20 percent,” said Amnesty.
This is no clearer than to the more than 100 Bedouin families living in the water-stressed village of Ras al-Awja near Jericho in Area C. While they are forced to pay inflated prices for tanker water from the nearest filling point some 7km away, nearby unlawful Israeli settlements have irrigated gardens and productive farmland, according to EWASH.
A water filling point that once served the Bedouin community has been welded shut by the Israeli authorities, causing a canal irrigation system to empty and stopping all piped water to Palestinians in the area. Without ample supplies of water, the existence of this livestock and subsistence farming-dependent community is under threat.
Israel lies they has responded to the needs of the Palestinians and has increased the quantity of water provided to them far beyond that specified in the Interim Agreement.
Meanwhile, the West Bank’s water crisis is worsening, according to a March 2010 report by EWASH. Only 31 percent of communities in the West Bank are connected to a sewage network.

In the pre-dawn hours on Saturday, Israeli forces invaded the northern West Bank city of Nablus, as well as the nearby villages of Zawata and Asira, raiding several homes and interrogating residents, then returning to the military base.
The troops invaded the city with a military force of several jeeps and armored vehicles, stopping their vehicles several times along Younis Street and Al-Majen Street in Ain Al-Maa refugee camp, according to eyewitnesses.
Invasions of Nablus are a nearly every day occurrence, and residents report frequent abductions and illegal searches and seizure of property by Israeli troops. Saturday's invasion comes just two days after an invasion in which Israeli troops raided an auto parts store, looting a large amount of the store's inventory and seizing the storeowner.
In addition to the early morning invasions, Israeli troops stationed at Huwwara checkpoint --the Israeli-controlled entrance to Nablus-- stopped a vehicle and detained a passenger when his name came up on a 'security' list.

Tropas israelíes invaden cerca de Jenin, y destruyen hogares-Israeli troops invade village near Jenin and break into homes.

Several Palestinian citizens were injured and dozens of suffocations occurred due to the attacks of the Israeli military forces to the participants in the weekly anti-wall protest in the town of Bil'in west of Ramallah on Friday.
Witnesses said that Israeli soldiers shot steel bullets, grenades, and gas towards the participants, resulting in the injury of several civilians, including children.
The village of Bil'in has been organizing weekly nonviolent protests against the wall since 2005, as the construction of the wall will result in the loss of more than half of the village's land.
In addition to the regular demonstrations, the villagers of Bil'in filed a law suit against the Israeli military. The Bil'in villagers vowed to continue resisting the wall until they retrieve their land.

Con nueva ley los palestinos deben jurar lealtad al estado judío de Israel-Palestinians may have to swear loyalty to 'Jewish' state with new law.

English.-
Israel's cabinet is set to accept a host of new measures that will greatly increase the burden on Palestinians seeking to be with their families in Israel.
This coming Sunday, Israel's cabinet is expected to pass measures that would greatly increase the barrier to permanent residency and citizenship for Palestinians. Most egregious and humiliating of them would be a requirement to pledge their loyalty to a 'Jewish and Democratic' state.
The measures will primarily affect Palestinian men and women who marry Israeli citizens and then seek citizenship on the basis of family reunification.
Some of the other restrictions include not allowing Palestinians to join their new families in Israel until the Interior Ministry grants them approval. They must also prove their financials and that they have a residence in Israel.
One of the only new restrictions is the addition of the pledge to a 'Jewish and Democratic state,' the other restrictions to be imposed on Palestinians wishing to gain residency or citizenship are not actually new; they are part of a law enacted in 2005 which must be renewed annually.
The cabinet is expected to pass all of this Sunday

English.-
Israeli Radio reported, Tuesday morning, that the Israeli Navy was placed on high alert on Monday at night, and is preparing to intercept the Libyan aid ship that sailed two days ago from Greece to deliver humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip.
special navy unit and a number of advanced combat boats are preparing plans to intercept, and, if needed, use force against the ship should it try to reach the Gaza coast.
A senior navy commander said that the navy will deal with the Libyan ship, that carries Moldavian flag, the same way it dealt with the Freedom Flotilla at the end of last May.
The commander added that clear messages will be sent to the captain of the ship to sail to Ashdod Port in order search it and unload its cargo. He said that should the pilot ignore the commands of the navy, Israel will be obliged to use force”.
Furthermore, Israeli daily Haaretz reported, Tuesday morning, that the Foreign Ministry instructed the army and the navy not to intercept the ship before its reaches the Gaza territorial waters, or at least when it is close to the territorial waters in order to avoid “violating the international law”.
Haaretz added that the ministry made the same request regarding the Freedom Flotilla but the government rejected it.
The Legal Department at the Foreign Ministry believes that the statements of the crew of the Libyan ship regarding determination to reach the Gaza shore might not be enough to justify attacking the ship in international waters.

English.-
The Israeli Authorities decided to illegally expropriate 30 Dunams of Palestinian lands that belong to villagers of Beit Ola, near the southern West Bank city of Hebron.
Local farmers said that the army did not even hand them the military orders, but instead placed the documents on the grounds of the lands in question.
The orders states that “under a military order, the lands are now state property”, and that the residents have 4 days to file appeals against the decision.
The confiscated lands are located in the areas of Abu Haltam, Um al-Khanazeer, and Wad al-Jalamoun.
It is worth mentioning that the army already grabbed 1,000 Dunams from the village in order to construct the annexation wall.
The new order will likely lead to the annexation of more than 5,000 Dunams that became isolated behind the Wall.

Local sources reported that six Palestinian protesters sustained bruises when Israeli forces attacked an anti-Wall rally in Beit Jala with clubs and rifle butts.
The protest began on Sunday afternoon after Christian prayers in the town of Beit Jala, near Bethlehem. Israelis, internationals and Palestinians gathered in the town center and began marching toward the Cremisan Monastery, where Israeli forces have been constructing the annexation wall on Palestinian land over the last several months.
As soon as the marchers got close to the site of the wall construction, through the middle of the Cremisan Monastery and Winery, Israeli forces gathered nearby began firing tear gas and concussion grenades – witnesses said the concussion grenades were not fired into the air, but were aimed directly at individuals, and hit 3 Palestinians.
After the tear gas and concussion grenades were fired, some Palestinian youth picked up stones and empty bottles and began throwing them toward the soldiers, who rushed toward the crowd and began randomly beating demonstrators, according to eyewitnesses.
At least six people were injured during the beatings.

Israel's separation barrier makes it difficult for Palestinians living in the West Bank to obtain proper health care, according to a new report from the United Nations.
Al Jazeera's Nisreen El-Shamayleh reports on how West Bank families have been affected by the barrierThe report, prepared by the Office of the Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs, found that thousands of Palestinians have limited access to East Jerusalem hospitals because of the barrier.
Ambulances are routinely delayed at checkpoints, and Palestinian vehicles are not allowed to pass through barrier checkpoints, forcing sick or elderly patients to walk.
Some Palestinians living in the West Bank cannot obtain permits to receive medical care in East Jerusalem - or they receive permits for shorter durations of time than the treatment requires.
"Males aged between 15 and 30 often have their requests for permits turned down on the grounds of security," the UN wrote. "In many cases, it is also difficult for parents of sick children or for family members to obtain permits to escort patients to Jerusalem."
Israel's civil administration told Al Jazeera that 84 per cent of Palestinians who apply are granted permits to access hospitals or other medical facilities.

Verdict anniversary

Friday is the sixth anniversary of an International Court of Justice ruling that declared the wall illegal. The court called on Israel to dismantle the wall and to compensate Palestinians affected by its construction.
Palestinians hold routine protests against the wall in the West Bank [AFP]Israel ignored the ruling, and construction continues: 61 per cent of the 707km barrier has now been built, according to the United Nations.
The UN's report noted that the barrier has also hurt farmers in the West Bank. Hundreds of farmers own land that sits between the wall and the Green Line, the cease-fire line drawn at the end of the 1948-49 Arab-Israeli war.
Those farmers need to obtain permits to work their own land, and can only access their property through one of 57 barrier gates.
"The majority of the gates only open during the olive harvest season, and usually only for a limited period during the day," the UN said. "Farmers are not permitted to stay on their land over night and must return at the last gate opening time."
More than 7,000 Palestinians live in those "seam zones" between the wall and the Green Line. They have little access to hospitals or other medical facilities once the barrier gates close for the night.
"Emergency medical care during those night hours requires co-ordination with the Israeli authorities, leading to serious delays," the UN wrote.

'21st-century colonisation"

The Israeli government started building the wall in 2002, after a wave of suicide bombings inside Israel. The government insists it is a temporary measure.
Few Palestinians believe that, and polls routinely show that halting the wall's construction is one of their main concerns. Saeb Erekat, the chief negotiator in the Palestinian Authority, recently called the barrier "colonisation in the 21st century".
"The wall is one of the ugliest manifestations of this grave violation of international law," Erekat said on Thursday. "It separates farmers from their lands, children from their schools and families from each other. It is a land grab disguised as a security measure."
In fact, the Israeli government has taken steps which suggest the wall will not be short-lived. Earlier this year, for example, Israeli officials said they were designing electronic key cards that farmers could use to access their land.
