El ex detenido y jefe del Departamento de Censo en el Ministerio Palestino para los detenidos, Abdul-Nasser Farawna, declaró que Israel llevó a cabo 700.000 arrestos ilegales desde junio de 1967, entre ellos decenas de miles de niños y más de 10.000 mujeres.
Farawna también declaró que 198 palestinos murieron a causa de la tortura, negligencia médica, mientras que algunos de ellos fueron fusilados y asesinados por los agentes que los detuvieron. Cientos de detenidos ilegales murieron después de que fueron puestos en libertad debido a problemas de salud relacionados con su detención y tortura.
El investigador agregó que el ejército detiene ilegalmente a personas de no importa que segmento de la sociedad ya sean mujeres, niños, ancianos, estudiantes, abogados, médicos y trabajadores, y que la mayoría de los palestinos prisioneros o secuestrados son torturados.
Aproximadamente 420.000 palestinos fueron secuestrados por el ejército en el período comprendido entre 1967 y el comienzo de la primera Intifada en 1987.
El ejército también llevó a cabo 210.000 arrestos durante los años de la primera Intifada, entre diciembre de 1987 y 1994.
La tasa de detenciones disminuyó después del acuerdo de paz de Oslo de 1994 hasta septiembre de 2000, periodo en el que Israel llevó a cabo 1.700 arrestos por año.
Pero después de la segunda Intifada, a finales de septiembre de 2000 y hasta el día de hoy, el ejército israelí lleva a más de 70.000 arrestos ilegales con una tasa de 7.000 detenciones cada año.
Farawna dijo que hay varios factores que influyen en el aumento o disminución en el número de detenciones como la situación de seguridad, y que la presencia directa del ejército en los territorios palestinos afecta al número de detenciones ilegales.
El investigador palestino, agregó además, que 198 palestinos murieron en una prisión israelí, después de la detención ilegal y la interrogación. La mayoría de los detenidos murieron a causa de la tortura y la falta de atención médica.
73 detenidos (36,9%) murieron en el período comprendido entre 1967 hasta el 08 de diciembre 1987.
42 (21,2%) detenidos murieron en las cárceles israelíes durante la primera Intifada en el período comprendido entre el 08 de diciembre y mediados de 1994.
Ocho detenidos murieron en las cárceles israelíes en el período comprendido entre 1994 hasta la segunda Intifada que comenzó en septiembre de 2000.
75 detenidos (37,9%) murieron durante la Intifada de Al Aqsa. 50 de ellos murieron después de no recibir la atención médica necesaria en las cárceles israelíes, y otros 7 fallecieron debido al uso excesivo de la fuerza contra ellos en las prisiones, lo que incluye el uso de disparons de armas de fuego letales contra ellos en la cárcel.
Esto es además de centenares de detenidos que murieron después de que fueron puestos en libertad ya que se enfermaron en las prisiones.
Farawna declaró además que los arrestos ilegales siguen en curso, y las condiciones en las cárceles israelíes son cada vez peores, mientras que el número de detenidos enfermos va en aumento, incluyendo decenas de personas que tienen enfermedades graves y problemas de salud.
Por otra parte, dijo Farawna que violaciones contra los detenidos también son cada vexz más inescrupulosas y violentas y expresó un llamamiento a los grupos de derechos humanos a intervenir para poner fin a estas violaciónes en curso llevadas a cabo por Israel contra los detenidos y sus derechos garantizados internacionalmente.

Former detainee and the head of the Census Department at the Palestinian Ministry Of Detainees, Abdul-Nasser Farawna, stated that Israel conducted 700.000 illegal arrests since June of 1967, including dozens of thousands of children and more than 10.000 women.
Farawna also stated that 198 Palestinians died due to torture, medical negligence, while some of them were shot and killed by their arresting officers. Hundreds of illegal detainees died after they were released due to health issues related to their arrest and torture.
The researcher added that the army does not target a specific segment of the society as the illegal arrests target women, children, elderly, students, lawyers, doctors and workers, and that most of the prisoners and kidnapped Palestinians were tortured.
Approximately 420.000 Palestinians were kidnapped by the army in the period between 1967 and the beginning of the first Intifada in 1987.
The army also conducted 210.000 illegal arrests during the years of the first Intifada, between December 1987 and 1994.
The arrests rate dropped after the Oslo peace agreement of 1994 until September 2000, as Israel conducted 1700 arrests each year.
But after the second Intifada started in late September 2000 until this day, the army carried more than 70.000 illegal arrests with a rate of 7000 arrests each year.
Farawna said that there are several factors that affect the increase or decrease in the numbers of arrests as the security situation, and the direct presence of the army in the Palestinian territories affects the number of arrests.
The Palestinian researcher further stated that 198 Palestinians died in Israeli prison, detention and interrogation centers. Most of the detainees died due to torture and lack of medical attention.
73 detainees (%36.9) died in the period between 1967 until December 8, 1987.
42 (%21.2) detainees died in Israeli prisons during the first Intifada in the period between December 8 and mid 1994.
Eight illegal detainees died in Israeli prisons in the period between 1994 until the second Intifada that started in September 2000.
75 detainees (%37.9)died during the Al Aqsa Intifada. 50 of them died after not receiving the needed medical attention in Israeli prisons, and 7 died due to excessive use of force against them in prisons; this includes the army’s use of lethal fire against them in prison.
This is besides hundreds of illegaly detainees who died after they were released as they became sick in prison.
Farawna further stated that arrests are still ongoing, and the conditions in Israeli prisons are becoming worse than before, while the number of sick detainees is increasing; including dozens who have serious diseases and health conditions.
Furthermore, Farawna said that the violations against the detainees are escalating, and voiced an appeal to human rights groups to intervene in order to put an end to the ongoing unscrupulous violations carried out by Israel against the detainees and their internationally guaranteed rights.
