Colono dispara a dos estudiantes afuera del campamento de refugiados de Arroub- Settler shoots two students outside Arroub refugee amp

Esta mañana a las 10am, un colono que conducía hacia el norte por la ruta 60 detuvo su coche frente a la Escuela Agrícola y la Universidad de Arroub, frente al campo de refugiados de Arroub, justo al norte de Beit Ommar. Se detuvo, se bajó de su coche y comenzó a dar disparos al aire, esta agresión inexplicable que motivó a los estudiantes al otro lado de la calle a empezar a gritarle y a tirar piedras a los coches. El hombre entonces se volvió y les disparó a dos estudiantes que estaban parados frente a la entrada a la escuela. Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Bis, de 19 años, recibió un disparo en el estómago y otro en la espalda; Mu'atez Benat Mousa, de 17 años, recibió un disparo en el muslo.
Hay dos puestos permanentes militares israelíes en el área inmediata, una torre junto a la entrada del campamento de refugiados y una torre a poco menos de 25 desde donde re realizaron los disparos. Activistas de la solidaridad internacional y el coordinador de los medios de comunicación del Proyecto de Solidaridad con Palestina llegó a tomar testimonios de testigos. Cuando estaban fotografiando el coche que había transportado a los dos heridos, los soldados israelíes que se habían reunido cerca de la entrada al campamento de refugiados comenzó a insistir y a amenzar que se fueran, primero se los empujó hacia el cruce de la autopista en dirección a la entrada de la universidad. En lugar de intentar detener a los colonos armados con pistola, la policía civil agarró a uno de los activistas internacionales, lo esposaron y lo metieron en una camioneta de la policía. La policía le preguntó qué estaba haciendo aquí, a lo que respondió que no iba a dar ninguna información hasta que él supiera por qué estaba detenido.
Fue liberado después.
Estas agresiones de extrema derecha se acentúan en medio de la creciente tensión en torno a Israel así como también las manifestaciones de la derecha incluidos los colonos de la zona del campamento de refugiados de Arroub, en apoyo a las fuerzas israelíes por el asalto a la flotilla de ayuda Gaza. Hace dos días, los colonos de Gush Etzion celebraron una manifestación, acompañados de la policía y gran cantidad de militares, justo al norte de Arroub en la Ruta 60, con banderas que representan a los militares israelíes y acosando y amenzando el paso de los vehículos palestinos. Es evidente que si Israel no se hace responsable de la muerte de los activistas internacionales, mucho menor o nula es la probabilidad de que un ciudadano israelí que ha mutilado a dos jóvenes palestinos reciba alguna pena o sanción.

This morning at 10am a settler driving north on route 60 stopped his car outside the Agricultural School and University of Arroub and in front of the Arroub Refugee camp, just north of Beit Ommar. He stopped, got out of his car, and began to fire live bullets into the air. As thre was no reason for this action and he didn't stpped, students on one side of the street were prompted to begin shouting at him and others across the street to throw stones at the car. He then turned and shot two students standing in front of the entrance to the school. Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Bis, 19, was shot in the stomach and back, Mu’atez Mousa Benat, 17, was shot in the thigh.
There are two permanent Israeli military posts in the immediate area, one tower next to the entrance of the refugee camp and one tower just less than 25 yards from where the shooting took place. Still, the settler fled the scene and the two teens were transported by private car to a hospital in Hebron where at least one is reportedly in critical condition.
International solidarity activists and the media coordinator of the Palestine Solidarity Project arrived to take testimonies from witnesses. When they were photographing the car that had transported the two injured, Israeli soldiers who had gathered near the entrance to the refugee camp began insisting that they leave, first by pushing them to cross the highway towards the entrance of the university. Rather than attempting to apprehend the gun-wielding settler, the civilian police then grabbed one of the international activists, handcuffed him, and put him in a police van. The police asked him what he was doing here, to which he replied that he would not give any information until he knew why he was arrested.
He was then released and the remaining activists were allowed to continue gathering information, though there was no sign that the soldiers or civilian police had any interest in investigating the brutal assault on unarmed civilians.
These assaults come in the midst of rising tension around Israel and right-wing demonstrations, including settlers in the Arroub Refugee Camp area, supporting the Israeli forces in their assault on the Gaza aid flotilla. Two days ago settlers from Gush Etzion held a small demonstration, accompanied by a large police and military presence, just north of Arroub on Route 60 holding flags representing the Israeli military and harassing passing Palestinian vehicles. It is clear that if Israel will not be held accountable for the deaths of at least 9 international activists, the likelihood that an Israeli citizen who has maimed 2 Palestinian youth would be held to account is nil.
